We opened our Food Pantry and Enrichment Center in October of 2019. We began as a community food resource with a client choice model, serving roughly 80 families weekly throughout our first five months. However, when the announcement of COVID lockdowns came the need from our community grew substantially. We grew throughout the coming weeks to be one of the only Food Pantries open throughout the entirety of the COVID lockdowns serving 1,200 families weekly. We were lucky to work within our resources to provide consistent wholesome meals consisting of every food group for each and every family. From the end of March through the end of 2020 we served over 100,000 individuals and roughly 1.5 million pounds of food. We are blessed for our incredible team of volunteers and all of our generous supporters. We still continue to be open twice weekly to serve the community as we all rebuild. We do not believe in area restrictions, so we are open to serve neighbors of all communities. We are a Northern Illinois Food Bank Partner.
Our Enrichment Center is a supplementary service we provide through this location in addition to offering only food items. This includes our Diapers & Formula program which is offered to parents or guardians of children who utilize our Food Pantry to receive these additional items twice monthly. Our Birthday Blessings program where we provide families with children with a bag filled with cake mix, frosting, napkins and plates as well as choice of a toy for a child who would not otherwise have the resources to celebrate their special day. It also includes our Kindness Tree in which items are given out such as Christmas toys for the holiday, hats, scarves and gloves for the cold winter months, packages of Valentines in celebration of Valentines day, Easter baskets for children for Easter and so much more.
